Initial Tack

The initial tack in labels and marking describes the immediate adhesion of an adhesive upon initial contact with a surface. It is a crucial factor for processing speed in industrial labeling, especially with high-speed dispensing machines. High initial tack ensures immediate fixation, while lower initial tack allows for precise positioning or correction. Adhesion is influenced by factors such as adhesive type, surface texture, and contact pressure. Particularly permanent acrylate or rubber adhesives offer strong immediate adhesion on difficult substrates such as rough, textured, or low-energy materials. In the technical industry, labels with optimized initial tack are essential to ensure secure marking even under demanding conditions. Test methods such as the Quick Stick test measure the immediate adhesive strength of a label. Depending on the application, the initial tack must be balanced with the final adhesion and removability of the label. The correct selection of the adhesive is crucial for reliable and permanent marking.
