Tamper-evident labeling films and proof of manipulation
Security films for protection against tampering and counterfeiting
The foils for producing security labeling for products, packaging, and documents protect manufacturers and institutions from monetary damage caused by counterfeiting and fraud. They prevent the undetected removal or transfer of labels and make tampering attempts immediately visible. Depending on the material, the label disintegrates upon removal or leaves clearly visible residues such as VOID lettering, checkerboard, or triangular patterns. This prevents re-use and clearly documents any manipulation.

The foils are destructible and specifically designed for tamper-evident labeling – ideal for security applications such as inspection marks.
What Adhesive Properties Do the 3M™ Security Films 3812DSL, 3812 and 3813 Have?
The modified acrylate adhesive of the #350 series offers high adhesive strength on high- and low-energy substrates as well as particularly strong initial adhesion.
What Constructions Distinguish the 3M™ Security Films 3812DSL, 3812 and 3813?
- 3812DSL: Protective paper 0.053 mm, silicone-coated on both sides
- 3812: Protective paper 0.078 mm, silicone-coated on one side
- 3813: Protective paper 0.164 mm, silicone-coated on one side, poly-coated
How Resistant are the 3M™ Security Films 3812DSL, 3812 and 3813 to Chemicals?
The foils show no changes even after 4 hours of immersion in n-heptane, brake fluid (DOT4), engine oil (15W40), or glass cleaner.
What Temperature Resistance Do the 3M™ Security Films 3812DSL, 3812 and 3813 Have?
They remain stable at -40 °C and +150 °C (each tested for 24h according to DIN 30646). Salt spray tests (150 h), QUV loads up to 2000h and condensation water tests also show no changes.
Are the 3M™ Security Films 3812DSL, 3812 and 3813 Flammable?
No, after bonding to aluminum, they are not flammable according to DIN 75200.
How Can the 3M™ Security Films 3812DSL, 3812 and 3813 be Processed?
- Die-cutting: Sharp knives, low web tension and double-sided silicone-coated protective paper are recommended to avoid adhesive leakage.
- Printing: Screen printing delivers the best results. The surface is also very suitable for thermal transfer printing, depending on the ribbon used. A color test before series production is useful.
Void Security Film 7380 from 3M
What Was the 3M™ Security Film 7380 Developed for?
The foil serves for tamper-evident labeling. Upon removal attempts, the lettering “VOID” appears both on the foil as a blank space and on the substrate, making manipulations immediately visible.
What Properties Does the 3M™ Security Film 7380 Have?
- Tamper-proof thanks to integrated VOID effect
- Can be labeled afterwards with variable information
- Suitable for difficult and low-energy substrates (e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene, silicone-coated paints)
- Dimensionally stable with low shrinkage (< 0.2 %)
- High electrical breakdown strength (80 kV/mm)
How is the Construction of the 3M™ Security Film 7380 Structured?
- Foil: Polyester, matte white, 0.058 mm thick
- Adhesive: Acrylate of the 300 series, 0.020 mm thick
- Protective paper: Compressed paper, silicone-coated on one side, 0.081 mm (80 g/m²)
How Temperature-Resistant is the 3M™ Security Film 7380?
Glued to aluminum, it withstands temperatures from –40 °C to +120 °C without visible changes.
How Does the 3M™ Security Film 7380 Behave under Stress Tests?
- Burning behavior: Self-extinguishing after 15 seconds, without dripping
- Salt spray test (DIN 50021 SS): 150 h without complaint
- Fungal resistance: Fungal resistant, not fungal promoting
- Substrate corrosion: Does not cause corrosion on the bonded substrate
Which Adhesive Does the 3M™ Security Film 7380 Use?
It is equipped with a permanently adhesive acrylate adhesive of the 300 series (PNS special adhesive). This is specially suitable for low temperatures as well as for polyethylene and polypropylene surfaces.
What Processing Conditions Apply to the 3M™ Security Film 7380?
The minimum bonding temperature is +4 °C. For maximum adhesion, the surface should be clean and dry.
Triangle Security Film 76970 / 76971 from 3M
What Were the 3M™ Security Films 76970 and 76971 Developed for?
The foils serve for tamper-evident labeling. They are equipped with a hidden triangular symbol that detaches from the label and remains adhered to the substrate upon removal attempts. On the foil, the symbol appears as a blank space – an undamaged transfer is not possible.
What are the Differences between the 3M™ Security Films 76970 and 76971?
- 76970: white, matt
- 76971: silver, matt
Both foils are made of polyester, are 0.053 mm thick, and use the same acrylate adhesive and release liner.
What Adhesive Properties Do the 3M™ Security Films 76970 and 76971 Have?
The foils are equipped with a permanently adhesive acrylate adhesive from the 350E series (PNS special adhesive). This is also suitable for low-energy substrates. The initial adhesion to glass is 6 N/25 mm and remains stable even after 48 hours.
