3M Thermoscript films have been developed for subsequent marking using the thermal transfer printing process. Their smooth material surface enables a flat, opaque color transfer for precise markings, e.g. with high-density barcodes. We recommend the use of thermal transfer ribbons based on synthetic resin.

Other printing methods such as screen printing, flexographic or letterpress printing are possible. Due to the different color qualities offered on the market, a color suitability test by the user is recommended before production. Equipped with a glassine protective paper, the Thermoscript films are suitable for the automatic dispensing of film labels.

The foils are suitable for bonding to metal, paints and high-energy plastics. For bonding to low-energy substrates, we recommend 3M Thermoscript foils with the 300E / 350E adhesive series. Please contact our product specialists for further information.

Based on our current knowledge, the following functionality and durability can be expected from 3M Thermoscript foils. Generally, not less than the following times with vertical outdoor weathering, if the foils have been properly processed and applied according to 3M recommendations:

Durability Outdoor use: 2-3 years
Indoor use: virtually unlimited
Shelf life 2 years
Recommended storage conditions 23°C / 50% relative humidity. Storage of film/label rolls in polybags is recommended.

Printing Screen/letterpress/flexographic/offset printing processes
A color qualification test is recommended before series production.
Note: It is recommended to test the base print for chemical resistance if necessary!
Thermal transfer printing The special surface coating of the 3M™ Thermoscript film series 310E is very suitable for subsequent marking using the thermal transfer printing process.
The visual appearance and the resistance of the subsequent marking depend on the ribbon used.
In order to achieve an optimal print image, the printing speed and the transfer temperature of the heating bar may have to be varied.
Punching Sharp knives and minimal web tension are recommended to avoid possible adhesive leakage.
