The 3M laser-markable foils can be marked and cut with all commercially available Nd-YAG and CO2 laser marking systems. Due to a special manufacturing process, the silver top layer and black base layer form a homogeneous unit. The 3M laser-markable foil is equipped with a modified 350 series acrylate adhesive and exhibits good initial adhesion even on low-energy substrates.

Permanent marking of products and machines Depending on the specific application, the foil can also be used for tamper-evident labeling. In most cases, once applied, labels cannot be removed without destruction.

Laser Marking The 3M laser-markable foils can be marked and cut with all commercially available Nd-YAG and CO2 laser marking systems. To optimize the appearance, it is advisable to individually adjust the marking parameters (lamp current, pulse frequency, speed) depending on the type and manner of the label (barcode or lettering). During laser marking, sufficient encapsulation of the ‘laser’ work area and suitable extraction of the occurring emissions are required. Additional filtering of exhaust gases is recommended but not absolutely necessary. Further information regarding emissions during laser marking can be obtained from our Occupational Safety, Environmental Protection, and Product Assurance department (Tel.: 02131-14-2401). Printing: Screen/Letterpress/Flexo/Offset printing processes A color qualification test is required before series production. Die-cutting: Sharp knives and minimal web tension are recommended, to avoid possible adhesive bleed. Substrate pretreatment and bonding: See processing information KG-054

Storage

Storage between 15°C and 25°C and 40% – 60% RH. Storage of film/label rolls in plastic bags is recommended.

Shelf Life

The shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture.
